LandCorp, the State Government’s property developer, was introduced to The Waterfront at Albany project in 2004 following the success of its land-marine projects at Mandurah and Exmouth.

LandCorp is working closely with the City of Albany, Great Southern Development Commission, Department for Planning and Infrastructure, Albany Port Authority, Department of Housing and Works and business and community groups to complete the project.

The State Government has committed $27.8 million to the redevelopment of The Waterfront at Albany. In addition, $46.3 million will be spent by the State Government on the construction of the Albany Entertainment Centre, which will be constructed in the heart of the project area.

The roles of the key partners are:

LandCorp:  Responsible for seeking approvals, undertaking subdivision of the site, constructing the boat harbours (the first 74 pens) and selling commercial sites to developers and businesses.

City of Albany: Responsible for the development of Anzac Peace Park and has a role as a planning regulator which was responsible for assessing, approving and adopting the master plan, structure plan and precinct plan for the project.

Department of Housing and Works: Responsible for designing and building the Albany Entertainment Centre which will be owned and managed by the City of Albany into the future.

Great Southern Development Commission: Have been strong supporters of the introduction of a waterfront to Albany, to help ensure there is a marina for boating needs.

Department for Planning and Infrastructure: Will manage the harbour and marina once the project is complete.

The commencement of the project’s development came after a long period of collaboration with both local stakeholders and the community:

Community Reference Group (CRG) - formed to ensure the community's concerns, preferences and local knowledge is – and continues to be - taken into account during the planning and development of the waterfront. The CRG includes representatives from the Albany Ratepayers Association, the business community and the commercial fishing and charter boat industries.

Stakeholder Reference Group (SRG) - comprised of representatives from LandCorp, the Great Southern Development Commission, Main Roads, the Department for Planning and Infrastructure and the City of Albany, and has provided invaluable input and expertise into the project plans.
