About
History
In early 2003 the State Government formed the Rockingham Planning and Development Taskforce to look at how the State Government could support development in the South West corridor and provide the level of services and investment in infrastructure required in a rapidly growing regional centre of Perth.
One of the Taskforce’s recommendations was the establishment of a specialist development office bringing together the key agencies supplying the planning, land development and economic support capacity and powers.
The Rockingham Development Office was officially opened in September 2004 to support the region’s continued growth.
In March 2007, the office was renamed the Rockingham Kwinana Development Office (RKDO) following a strategic review which reinforced the need for a regional perspective. This was a significant milestone and reflected the increasing importance of the Kwinana area in its operations.
The RKDO incorporates representatives from:
LandCorp
Department for Planning and Infrastructure
City of Rockingham
Town of Kwinana
In the past five years the RKDO has played a vital role in the initiation and delivery of key infrastructure projects in the region.
The Future
The goal of the RKDO is to ensure the Rockingham Kwinana community has access to the full range of facilities and services that can be expected in a strategic regional centre in a major growth corridor.
This includes ensuring that infrastructure for housing, employment, recreation, education, health, sport and tourism can be provided for the region.
By helping to facilitate the development of these amenities the RKDO aims to encourage the creation of jobs and career opportunities for young people, attract investment to the region and provide the level of services and facilities the region requires.
To ensure the RKDO meets its objectives, the position of overall office director has been created and the four key partners will provide additional staff resources.
Mission: to work with strategic partners to help the Rockingham Kwinana region realise its vision for the benefit of Perth and Western Australia.
Vision: A safe, prosperous and attractive place to live, work and visit.
