PCYC The Right to Write - Graffiti Reduction Program

The RKDO supported the PCYC in the pilot of the Right to Write Graffiti Reduction Program, which engages juvenile graffiti offenders through education, mentoring and upskilling.
The Minister for Planning, Culture and the Arts John Day MLA and  RKDO Chairman Hon Phil Edman MLC launched the pilot program with an art exhibition at the Gary Holland Community Centre on 3 December 2009.  The event was a huge success with the majority of the students artwork sold on the night with all proceeds going towards the Right to Write Anti Graffiti program.

PCYC 'Weld to Life' Program

In October 2009 the Rockingham PCYC was awarded $15,000 and the National Certificate for Australian Crime and Violence Prevention. The RKDO through Sussan Shave was the author of the PCYC application for the award.
The ‘Weld to Life’ program engages local juvenile offenders who were committing offences in an intensive work-ready training program to reduce offending behaviour.  The  program resulted in an 83% reduction in offences committed by participants and 80% of graduated participants pursued further training, were employed or returned to school.
