The $15 million first stage of the Rockingham City Centre Transit System (RCCTS) involves four modern, gas-powered buses providing a high frequency 'Rockingham Shuttle' service between the Rockingham Train Station, the city centre, the Murdoch University campus and the city's popular foreshore.
The project includes a dedicated bus underpass at Ennis Avenue as well as construction of a Transit Street through the city centre.
The second stage of the project is the conversion of the system to light rail, however this is dependent on population growth within the region.
A key project of the Rockingham Kwinana Development Office, the RCCTS is completed and is now operated by the Public Transport Authority.
Current status
The RCCTS (Bus route 555) commenced operations with the opening of the Perth to Mandurah Railway in December 2007.
