Rockingham Transit Street

The new Transit Street forms an integral part of the Rockingham City Centre Transit System (RCCTS).  The introduction of the Transit Street will add to the creation of a pedestrian friendly and vibrant heart for the Rockingham city centre.

The Transit Street is transforming Contest Parade into a readily accessible precinct incorporating retail, entertainment, commercial and civic facilities.

Contest Parade has been extended from Council Avenue to Chalgrove Avenue.  The extension is integrated with the expanded Rockingham City shopping centre, as well as the existing civic buildings to the north of Central Promenade.

The Transit Street will help stimulate economic development and investment in the city by strengthening Rockingham’s tourism potential and commercial activity.  It will also act as a catalyst for transit oriented development in the area.

The project also complements the City of Rockingham’s overall plan for the Strategic Regional Centre.

Current status

The Transit Street opened for operation in December 2007.  Development along the western side, including the entertainment precinct (Syren Street) is almost complete.  Planning is continuing for development on the eastern side including commercial, residential and mixed uses.
