Lark Hill Sportsplex

Stage One of the Lark Hill Sportsplex was officially launched on 7 June 2008 and is one of the largest multi-sports facilities in Australia.  The facility provides opportunities for thousands of sporting participants to engage in a variety of sports from junior to state level competitions.

The Sportsplex is the City of Rockingham’s single largest capital investment in its community.  As well as providing quality sporting venues for many generations of residents, the Lark Hill Sportsplex also provides eco-tourism opportunities through the establishment of environmental walk trails that have been constructed within the adjoining wetlands and conservation area.

The sporting features for the Lark Hill Sportsplex include six rugby fields, two turf cricket playing fields, two synthetic cricket playing fields, twelve turf practice wickets, four hockey fields, a synthetic hockey field, six soccer pitches, four junior soccer fields and eight softball diamonds.

The sporting facilities are fully lit to both training level and competition standard.  Three separate clubroom developments have been built which will be shared between summer and winter sporting clubs. Family and barbeque areas are also  provided.

Current Status

The Lark Hill Sportsplex was officially opened on the 7 June 2008 by City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels, Rockingham MLA Mark McGowan and Hon. Gary Gray, MHR.

The opening was celebrated with an all day community event which included a commemorative burial of a time capsule.  Included in the capsule were Rockingham Council documents related to Lark Hill, business cards, sporting club memorabilia and people were invited on the day to insert letters and business cards.

RKDO would like to congratulate the City of Rockingham's Project Director Gary Rogers for a successful opening day that was enjoyed by the whole community.

Family and barbeque areas have been constructed and the hockey pitch  was also completed by June 2008.

The City of Rockingham is considering bringing forward the development of Warnbro Sound Avenue duplication, which would also result in the development of the second roundabout to the Lark Hill Sportsplex site.  This would provide access and egress to any future Stage 2 developments at the Lark Hill Sportsplex.

Preliminary discussions are being held with private companies and Government agencies, as well as potential sporting organisations, to establish a range of facilities as part of a Stage 2 development of Lark Hill.  Further information will be released at a later date.
