Kwinana Town Centre Revitalisation

Central Kwinana is coming to life with a vibrant $340 million revitalisation of the Town Centre now underway.

Covering over 92 hectares at the centre of the township, this area is set to provide first class civic and educational facilities, as well as a rich mix of commercial, cultural and entertainment functions.  New residential developments in the Town Centre will encourage more activity after hours, creating a safer and more vibrant environment.

Chisham Avenue set to become a bustling hub

Chisham Avenue, between Gilmore and Meares Avenue, will soon become a bustling commercial street that will enjoy a rich mix of uses. A high level of pedestrian activity, slow moving traffic, comfortable and sheltered sidewalks and quality public open space will create a pleasant environment in which to work, shop and recreate.

Development on Chisham Avenue, which has already commenced, includes retail and offices, restaurants, cafés, entertainment venues and other community services in 2 to 3 storey mixed-use buildings that front directly onto the sidewalks, creating continuous activity on both sides of the street.

The buildings will also frame a central space, or Town Square, that will become the ‘heart' of the Kwinana community, offering a place for weekend markets and special events, as well as a casual, outdoor meeting place for all.

Among the many Town Centre projects already completed or now underway are:

    • Gilmore College
    • Challenger TAFE Automotive Technology Skills Centre
    • A high quality central townhouse and luxury apartment development now on sale
    • New tavern and brasserie restaurant
    • Several commercial office developments in and around Chisham Avenue.

The Town of Kwinana itself has some key developments that themselves will form an integral part of the Town Centre including:

    • $22M  Community Resource and Knowledge Centre
    • $5M Youth Centre
    • major upgrade of the Town Centre streetscape and pedestrian connections.

Current Status

The RKDO is helping with the new Town Centre design and has facilitated State Government assistance to ensure this exciting vision is achieved.

In March 2010, Planning Minister John Day announced State Government funding of up to $6 million towards the revitalisation.
